This qualification, which is equivalent to two A-levels, is designed to give learners the skills, knowledge and experience needed to improve physiologically and psychologically. Learners will gain in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms behind sport and how to improve performance. Modules covered may include: • Principles of anatomy and physiology • Fitness training and programming • Sports nutrition • Professional development • Sports leadership • Sports psychology • Practical sports performance
What do I need to join?
Learners will need 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C), including English, Maths and Science. Learners must also display (at interview and a College taster day) an enthusiasm for the industry, in addition to an interest in sport and/or coaching and a keen motivation to learn.
How will I know how I am doing?
Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behaviour and punctuality, as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.
Learners on this course will undertake a minimum of 36 hours' work experience with local organisations in the delivery of sporting opportunities, in order to experience real-life delivery to groups of participants.
What can I do next?
This qualification prepares you for study on one of our higher education degree programmes at SGS or, alternatively, you may apply to other higher education institutions. You could also enter employment in the sport, leisure and recreation industry, or apply for an apprenticeship.Apply for this course
