SGS Student Inspires the Community Again with Lockdown Workout Classes

Vicky Newport inspired her local community during the first lockdown by providing doorstep fitness classes for her neighbours in Kingswood. Following the success of this, and to reach more people, Vicky has started to offer free Zoom fitness classes which take place on a Saturday morning.

Vicky said:

“Following on from the success of the summer street fitness in lockdown I decided to go virtual for the winter, it meant that other people could get involved not just my street such as friends and family. “Fitness has really helped me during lockdown. It’s given me something to focus on and goals to achieve so why not share this with others and go on a journey together.”

Vicky is currently studying a BSc Sports Coaching course at SGS College and is also a player and coach of the SGS Netball Academy. Both of which have helped her to adapt her online sessions to suit all.

Lara Gulotta, Head of Netball at SGS comments:

“Vicky has been great at helping to motivate her fellow players in the Netball Academy as well as the wider community through her Zoom fitness sessions. At the start of this new lockdown, Vicky offered to deliver online fitness sessions to the team and so every Friday at 8am, we all log on and get ready for the day with one of Vicky’s innovative exercise classes.” Vicky’s class takes place on Saturday morning at 11am and is suitable for all ages and abilities. To join visit: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86539555714?pwd=NkwwWDdDSzByb25kZS93cDN4ZGRGUT09 using Meeting ID: 865 3955 5714 and Passcode: nSzkr0.

Vicky added:

“I know lockdown can be tough and this one seemed even more challenging being in winter but if we all come together, and most of all be kind, it may seem less daunting and easier to get through.”
