Once again SGS has achieved the prestigious Matrix Standard accreditation for the quality of the information, advice, and guidance services (IAG) the College has to offer.
The Standard, which is an international quality mark, has once again been awarded in recognition of these important services which are provided to make a difference to learner achievement, progression, and life chances.
The assessment covered the College’s careers service (to college and partner schools' students), money management services, tutorials and enrichment programme, work placements, learner wellbeing and the learning support teams’ services. Over 50 interviews with staff, learners, local government, school leaders and employers were conducted by an external assessor, cross-referenced to evidence our IAG processes. SGS was praised for the work they have done around the digitalisation of its services, the use of TEAMS and the golden thread of IAG which is now more evident across all services for their learners.
John Walker, Head of Careers and school services reflected:
“The Matrix re-accreditation process has given us the opportunity to assess, in depth, the wrap-around IAG services we provide to students, at a pivotal stage of their lives. We are now able to implement further development plans in the knowledge that our service is a robust one.
“The primary aim of SGS College is to ensure that learners leave us with great life chances. They will have secured a qualification that allows them to progress to meaningful work or further studies. Our Matrix accreditation ensures that our IAG services work alongside our academic staff, to support students in overcoming social and financial barriers, widen their career horizons and provide transferable skills so essential for them to achieve their potential.”
