As a growing SME in the maintenance and engineering sector, Gas Safe Bristol Limited have been running a rolling apprenticeship programme in partnership with SGS College for the last 6 years, retaining more than 90% of qualified apprentices into the company.
Currently the organisation has 6 apprentices working in a variety of roles, from engineering to business administration, all making a worthy contribution to the business. Over the years they have learnt that long-term investment in a strong team of employees is vital in continuing to fulfil the organisations growth aspirations.

“All our team members buy into our apprenticeship programme – everyone from the Directors and Management, right through to the office staff and engineering teams. All our staff have an important part to play in the development of young people and apprentices within our business.
A skills gap is currently affecting the construction sector and companies across the UK, meaning it is hard to fill vacancies. However, by recruiting and training apprentices, we can develop people in a way that promotes the specific skills required by our business and industry sector, therefore investing in the future of our people and business as a whole.
Those undertaking an apprenticeship also get the opportunity of gaining a qualification, which in turn boosts their confidence, self-esteem and improving their social mobility.
We recognise that apprenticeships are particularly cost-effective as a form of training because young people are contributing to the business while they are learning. Our apprentices spend much of their time gaining skills on the job, and most attend a Skills Training Centre one day a week.
