Former Student Signs Premier League FC 3-Year Deal

Kacper Lopata, a former student at SGS College, has signed a 3-year deal with Sheffield United.

Kacper Lopata, a former student at SGS College, has signed a 3-year deal with Sheffield United. The 19-year-old, originally from Poland, excelled on the field whilst at the College and his dedication and hard work has continued to pay off.

At SGS, Kacper studied a BTEC Level 3 in Sport and joined the SGS Football Academy. He arrived with injuries sustained from overuse at a pro-club and was unable to train or play until November of his first year at College. However, Kacper still attended every training session, come rain or shine and was hungry to listen, learn and improve.

As soon as Kacper was able to start training, his Coach, David Hockaday decided to give him a try out as a Central Defender with Kacper taking to the position like a duck to water. He practiced extremely hard at every session and had to be dragged off the pitch at the end of each day, always maintaining a burning drive to be the very best that he could be.

Kacper was also a model academic student and became a mainstay of the successful SGS College First Team, winning everything in their path. Kacper continued to excel at football and the following pre-season started to attract an impressive amount of interest from pro-clubs. He proceeded to trial for several clubs with Brighton & Hove Albion Academy Manager, John Morling, offering him a 2-year contract.

SGS continued to support Kacper with his studies at Brighton where he performed extremely well, defeating both West Ham Utd U18`s and Manchester United U18`s in the FA Youth Cup that first year.

Kacper was put out on loan to Whitehawk FC where he again excelled and went on to be selected for the Poland U18 National Team. This led to him being loaned out to Polish Championship Team, Zaglebie Sosnowiec, where he played many first team matches at the tender age of 18.

Kacper continued to attract offers from several Premiership and Championship clubs throughout Europe but had his heart set on playing in England. He went on trial at Sheffield United Premier League resulting in signing a 3-year pro contract, as well as representing Poland U19 International.

Kacper comments:

“I will always look back at SGS as one of the best periods of my life. They had everything I needed to push on and reach the next level which was securing a pro contract and playing for my national team. The facilities are one of the best in the country, let alone the coaching. On top of all this I had great teachers around me to help my academical side. I will never forget what SGS have done for me and I will always be grateful.”

David Hockaday, Head Coach at SGS College added:

“At SGS Football Academy our culture is based around ‘hunger and belief’. Kacper came to SGS with an insatiable appetite to be the best that he could be and with his incredible work ethic we were able to build on his belief system to such an extent that he now knows/believes that he is good enough to play at a very high level. He has humility in abundance and a fire burning in his stomach to reach for the stars. Everything this young man achieves he earns and fully deserves.”

“As a coach I cannot be prouder of this young player and I am fully expecting more success stories about Kacper. He is a credit to himself, his family and to SGS.”
