Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Channel 5 Films SGS Salons

An exciting day for our Hair and Beauty department this week at SGS College, Stroud Campus, with Channel 5 filming the salons for their next series of 'Bargain Brits on Benefits'.

Bargain Brits on Benefits is a TV documentary which focuses on how individuals across the nation can save a lot of money by making small changes to their lifestyles and whose clever ideas and savvy schemes save them a small fortune.

The film crew contacted the College as they wanted to highlight the affordable range of hair and beauty treatments on offer to the public at a fraction of the cost of a typical high street salon. From nail extensions to tanning and hair styling, waxing to massage and facials, the quality of the treatments are performed by students to the highest industry standards and are offered at extremely competitive prices, under the supervision of fully qualified lecturing staff.

Michelle Parker, who has just completed her Level 3 qualification in Hairdressing, was filmed giving a client a shampoo, cut and blow dry in one of the College's purpose-built hair salons.

Michelle commented:

"I've loved the course at SGS, especially the practical element and being able to work with members of the public in the salons. It's given me such a good insight into what it would be like working in a professional salon and has also increased my confidence by pleasing clients and giving them the results they wanted. Seeing them leave the salon with a big smile on their face is so rewarding!"

SGS offer practical and highly regarded programmes giving learners the choice of exciting career opportunities within the beauty therapy, hairdressing, make-up and complementary therapy industries. The diverse range of employment options includes work in salons, spas, TV, film, hotels, cruise ships, health farms and, in many cases, self-employment.
