Full-time learner’s care career off to a flying start

Abi George aged 17 from Yate has secured a part-time job at The Meadows Care Home, following her dream of working in care.

After commencing her full-time studies in September at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College she soon secured a work placement at The Meadows as part of her course in Health and Social Care.

With Abi’s dedication and hard work, she was put forward by management to interview for a permanent part-time position as a Care Assistant. She was over the moon when she heard the news that she had secured the job and even phoned her work placement officer at College.

Abi has settled in well with the residents and the team undertaking two shifts a week, earning alongside her studies.

Abi comments:

“I have learned so much since being here, I enjoy speaking to the residents and hearing all their amazing life stories. I didn’t realise a job could be so rewarding and its definitely helping me with my studies.”

Abi’s Manager added:

“Abi’s confidence has improved since the first day she walked in. She is always willing to learn more. We took her straight out of her comfort zones and have started to see her grow which has enabled her to develop in this role. She is reliable, attending all her shifts. She will do anything for the residents and has built some great relationships with them. Abi has certainly integrated well with the team and is very well accepted.”
