Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

College have an exciting opportunity for a Travel and Tourism Lecturer at our Filton campus.   

We currently have a vacancy for someone to join our well-established, active and supportive Further Education Travel and Tourism Team.   In joining our team, you will be supported in developing your teaching skills, and will be given regular opportunities for professional development. The college offer frequent cross college training and collaboration opportunities.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of travel -related units across our Air Industry, Level 2 and Level 3 provision. Depending on experience there may be an opportunity to take on course leadership or quality assurance responsibilities.
  • Alongside the teaching responsibilities there will be an expectation to support on our tutorial programme, offering pastoral support, setting learners academic and personal development targets.
  • As a lecturer at SGS College you will make a positive contribution to young people’s lives, supporting and encouraging learners in their further education journey and developing their key employability skills.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • A relevant teaching qualification is desirable but not essential, candidates with a range of industry experience will be considered and there will be the opportunity to work towards gaining a teaching qualification.
  • The successful candidate should ideally have a travel and tourism related qualification, experience of working within the travel industry as well as a solid understanding of the different industry sectors.
  • The key personal skills required for the role are excellent communication skills, forward thinking, dynamic, resilient, and inspiring.
  • Our ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, with a willingness to support the department in arranging guest speakers, trips, and work experience.
