Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Job Information:  Learning Area Manager for Specialist Educational Provision

Contract Type:  Permanent

Working Hours: 37

Location:  The Chase, Stroud Campus

FTE Salary: Up to £40,056 per annum

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • The post holder will support the Cost of Provision Map process which will directly influence the budget. This may include funding rationales and increase/decrease requests to the local authority. 
  • Be responsible for high quality teaching and curriculum management within the department, modelling outstanding teaching to young people with a range of Learning Disabilities
  • Line manage all staff within the Department to ensure a thorough understanding of learner issues and support needed within the department
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements including chairing and maintaining EHCPs
  • Develop resources for young people with SEND/SEN the course/subject including maintaining effective links across College for resources
  • Ensure a safe working environment for staff and learners including overseeing of risk assessments, PEEPs and complex care plans

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English grade C or above v  PGCE or equivalent
  • Experience of successfully leading a team through change and development
  • Experience of teaching young people with a range of learning disabilities including PMLD 
  • Knowledge of relevant SEND specific guidelines and policies
  • Experience of working with external or partnering organisations
