Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Why become a Governor?

With over 3000 learners spread across the College’s main campuses at Filton, Stoke Gifford, Berkeley and Stroud, SGS plays a crucial role in the development of the skills and talents of young people and adults across the communities it serves.

Governors, working with the College Executive, have a key role to play in leading the College to achieve its Vision and Strategic Aim of becoming an outstanding institution.

To support us achieve our exciting transformation agenda and strategic objectives, we would like to attract new Governors to join our Corporation.

The role of a Governor is interesting, varied and rewarding. You will have an important part to play in setting the strategic direction of the College, ensuring accountability for the use of public funds and monitoring and evaluating the College’s performance.

Our existing Governors come from diverse backgrounds within the communities SGS serves. On a voluntary basis they are dedicated to making a positive contribution to the development of Further Education in the area.

The Corporation welcomes all applications and is keen to involve people of all ages and cultural backgrounds and strongly encourages applications from under-represented groups and from all sections of the communities served.
