Job Reference 1804794Property Maintenance ApprenticeWe are looking for a Property Maintenance Apprentice to join one of our Maintenance Engineers based in our City Centre Hotel in Bristol. You will support their work to assist with all maintenance duties as required within the Hotel environment.

Apprenticeship Summary

In this role, your main duties will include:

  • Preparation of rooms, working areas, sections prior to decorating
  • Ensuring all property / equipment is moved safely and carefully
  • Cleaning of surfaces prior to paint application
  • Stripping / scraping off previous surface coverings using hand tools, equipment
  • Applying a variety of different paint types to surfaces
  • Use of stepladders / proprietary staging / trestle / platforms
  • Ladders and crawler boards
  • All other general maintenance duties as required within the hotel environment
  • Room preventative maintenance
  • Water temperature checks
  • Fire safety checks
  • Use of general electricity
  • Basic plumbing
  • Air-conditioning maintenance
  • Health and safety checks

The Maintenance team are multi-skilled operatives with a raft of other skills covering all major Construction areas: Plastering/Flooring/Basic Plumbing/Painting/Tiling etc. One of the main skills required in this role will be customer service as you will be interactive with hotel guests and colleagues constantly. It is also a requirement to be flexible regarding working times as it is sometimes essential to be available for unsociable hours. The successful candidate will be required to complete an apprenticeship program and adhere to safety and site regulations at all times.

Desired qualifications

Preferred Grade 4 ( C Pass ) attainment in maths and English GCSE, or equivalents, but there will be an absolute minimum of holding a Grade 3 ( D Grade ) in GCSE, or equivalents, maths and English. If you have a Grade 3 in either / or both maths and English you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 2 on your day release day at SGS College.

Things to consider

  • You will come into contact with hotel guests and staff on a daily basis therefore it is essential that the successful candidate has a polite and personable manner as well as having good communication skills
  • This is physically demanding work so the successful applicant will have a good level a physical fitness
  • Expect some early mornings and late evenings
  • This is multi skilled Apprenticeship so expect to be getting involved in a wide variety of trades related activities i.e. plastering / brickwork / carpentry / tiling / Painting & Decorating and general maintenance etc...

Training

As the successful apprentice you will undertake a LEVEL 2 Apprenticeship STANDARD to include all Technical aspects pertaining to the requirements of the National Standard and Functional Skills in maths, English (where applicable).

The Apprenticeship will be delivered by a South Gloucestershire & Stroud College Assessor. You will be required to attend Stroud Campus to complete any underpinning knowledge support, however the majority of your assessments towards your qualifications will be undertaken within the workplace environment.

You will be assigned a supervisor/mentor within the workplace, who will support you to develop your workplace skills, knowledge and experience throughout the duration of your apprenticeship programme.
