SGS College | Be Outstanding

Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

TOTUM - Why should you buy a TOTUM card?

Much of the time spent being a student requires managing money so any way of making a saving has to be a bonus, right? The NUS (National Union of Students) TOTUM card is the perfect opportunity and it has loads of discounts. Plus, it will benefit you too; money received from card sales is used to support SU projects across the country.

So, the question is, what benefits do you get from purchasing a TOTUM card? The answer is simple. You will get money off your food bills; cheaper travel; discounts from shops to help with college essentials; and clothes. There are also discounts to cinemas and eateries for budget evenings out. At £12.99 a year a TOTUM Card will save you money.

Operation Christmas

In December 2022, our learners and staff banded together to initiate Operation Christmas. Operation Christmas was a fundraising initiative that saw SGS aim to raise £15,000 to provide relief for our most venerable learners over the festive period. Auctions, charity walks, festive fashion days and student projects saw our SGS College smash our target and deliver upon our intentions to help those most in need. Thank you to all staff and learners for their commitment in participating.

SGS Student Union Big Debate

Once a month, learners at SGS College have the opportunity to develop their knowledge with a wide range of guest speakers and activities that aim to further our learners understanding of topics that are societally relevant and noteworthy. With the use of the Events and Diversity Calendar we invite local charities and organisations on site that respond to our learners needs, requests and interests. Whether it be TikTok Boybands, Charities, TV Show Finalists, Health Organisations or our Public Services, you can guarantee our Big Debate Series provides the best platform for our learners to develop both personally and socially.

Your SU Hub

The SU Hub's based at our Filton and Stroud Campuses is a space for students to study and collaborate, relax and meet friends. Learners have access to Tvs, Xbox, pool tables, table tennis and many more. Our SU staff are always present during its opening hours so should you have any ideas or would like to join the social committee, please reach out. Information Station The SGS+ Information Stations see charities and organisations running pop-up stalls for each campus.
