In March 2015 SGS Berkeley Green UTC was invited by the Secretary of State for Education to enter a pre-opening phase ahead of a planned opening in September 2017.
Providing specialist high quality vocational and academic education for learners with a strong interest in Advanced Engineering and Digital Technologies SGS Berkeley Green UTC is one of sixty planned or already open University Technical Colleges nationally.
SGS Berkeley Green UTC’s curriculum has been developed in partnership with employers who take an active role in the operation and teaching at the UTC. Learners follow the national curriculum but spend forty percent of their time undertaking specialist vocational education and projects led by employers.
Life at a University Technical College is different to school and has more in common with the workplace. Days are longer with slightly longer (a working day) terms, but there is no homework and teaching and learning are conducted in an adult environment.
Due to SGS Berkeley Green UTC’s narrower curriculum focus high levels of investment have been made in specialist equipment to support the curriculum. This includes equipment more often found in employer’s premises rather than schools.
The University Technical Colleges exciting approach to learning offers young people exciting progression opportunities, many with our sponsor’s employers and the University of Gloucestershire.
Learners leaving SGS Berkeley Green UTC can expect to secure Apprenticeships, Higher Level Apprenticeships, Degree Level Apprenticeships, places at University and employment.
