Exciting new provision allows greater options for young people in Stroud and Berkeley
Exciting new provision, being offered at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, will allow young people from the Stroud and Berkeley areas greater options from September 2017.
The new post 16 courses, being offered alongside existing subject areas, are to support Gloucestershire’s growing and vibrant economy. These programmes are a first for the campuses, allowing young people in the district more options when finishing year 11.
The Stroud Campus already offers extensive provision, however these exciting new programmes aim to show young people new career options available to them. The new courses on offer include: Animal Science, Countryside Management, Performing Arts and Broadcast Media, Photography, Interior Design, Creative Computing and Digital Systems Design, Painting and Decorating, and Heating and Ventilation.
Stroud is renowned for the arts and SGS is extremely proud to be celebrating 25 years provision of the acclaimed art foundation course this year. The campus itself boasts fantastic facilities with state-of-the-art equipment and a recent multi-million pound investment.
At the most recent OFTED inspection the College was judged to have ‘Outstanding’ Leadership and Management, Learner Support Services and Employability. There were further outstanding grades on Sport, Business, Performing and Visual Arts. This is shown in the success rates with over 98% of students at the College going on to Higher Education, Apprenticeships or employment after completing their course.
In addition to this, the new Berkeley GREEN Campus will offer some of the best training facilities in the country for the Built Environment, Welding, Engineering and Digital Technologies. SGS College has invested in a new £5million Engineering Centre (known as GREEN) that will respond to the regional growth in engineering and nuclear. The new courses here include: Catering, Cyber and Computing Security, Electrical, Engineering, Construction, and Welding and Fabrication.
When the campus opens in September, SGS will be offering free travel from Filton, Stroud, Cam and Gloucester to Berkeley Green meaning students can access a first class education, easily.
Principal, Sara-Jane Watkins, comments: “The new provision on offer at both Berkeley and Stroud is to cater for the growing demand within the region. Our success rates are amongst the best in the country, and our multi-million pound investment programme at Berkeley GREEN provides the best environment with state-of-the-art equipment. The Stroud Campus boasts a modern building that combines purpose-built facilities with the latest technology, to ensure participants have the best chance of entering employment, apprenticeships or further/higher education courses when completing a qualification with us.”
