Sporting milestone for SGS and HE student Beth

Higher Education (HE) student, Beth Atkinson, has become the first female athlete to represent SGS at the recent British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) event.

19-year-old Beth from North Somerset studies HND Sport and Exercise Science through the College’s university-level School of Sport, alongside her training as a member of the Table Tennis Academy.

The BUCS event sees some of Britain’s top players at university or college compete. Many players are proven international athletes. SGS College Alumni, Gemma McKay, was also competing at the event representing the University of Gloucestershire.

Head of School Sports at SGS, Gareth Reynolds, comments: “We’re really proud of Beth. It is fantastic to create a milestone with our first female BUCS entrant.

“With the growth of HE at SGS we are now in a position to provide even more sporting opportunities to our students, where they can develop their game alongside their chosen degree/career pathway.

“The Academy of Sport at SGS has a rich history, and the expansion of HE presents an exciting opportunity for students to develop further. At the next BUCS Nationals, we’re aiming to enter a whole squad of table tennis players.”
