SGS students dance at the galleries to raise funds for the grand appeal

The Galleries, Bristol welcomed SGS College's level 3 dance students to the centre to raise funds for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity.

The students performed a variety of dance routines in the centre, Monday February. Approximately 20 students took to the dance floor on the ground floor of The Galleries, in their fourth charity performance at the centre to date.

Established in 1995, The Grand Appeal has raised £50 million to support sick babies and children and their families in Bristol Children’s Hospital. It’s a charity that The Galleries has previously supported with their involvement in the Gromit Unleashed 2 trail in 2018.

The Grand Appeal raises money for pioneering and lifesaving medical equipment; funding research into new and better treatments to improve childhood health; providing family accommodation and family support to parents and siblings; as well as funding a wide-ranging arts, music, play and entertainment programme for patients, ensuring the hospital is a vibrant and child-friendly environment for all.

Bristol Children’s Hospital covers the largest geographic area of any children’s hospital in England, treating more than 100,000 children each year, and serves as the paediatric intensive care and Major Trauma centre for the whole South West region. The hospital is an international, national and regional specialist centre of excellence for a range of services including neurosurgery, burns, epilepsy, cardiac, leukaemia and bone marrow transplants.

Julie Hembrough, Work Placement Coach, SGS College says:

"The support from the shopping centres has been incredible! Again they have provided us with a platform for our very talented students to perform for the public, whilst raising funds and awareness of the fantastic charity - The Grand Appeal.  The students relish this opportunity given to them and wouldn't be possible without the fantastic support from The Galleries and Broadmead Bristol."

Colin Lang, Centre Manager, The Galleries said:

“We’re thrilled to be welcoming students from SGS College back to the centre again and supporting them in their pursuit to raise funds for The Grand Appeal.  It’s a charity that we as a team are very passionate about given the services they offer Bristol and the wider community.”
