SGS Athletics win South West Colleges Competition

Wednesday 10th May saw SGS Athletics Academy host the SW Colleges Competition.

Taking place for the first time at the College’s WISE Campus, teams from Truro, Richard Huish, Weston and Palmers College participated in a range of events, all competing for the title of SW College’s champion.

With strong performances from Truro and Richard Huish it came down to the last field events to decide the victor. After a hard fought afternoon, SGS College secured victory to be crowned champions.

Speaking about the day head coach of athletics at SGS, Andrea Garcia-Lock, said: “It was great to be able to host this event at our home stadium, which has been a goal since starting the academy in 2010.

“There was a great atmosphere and we were able to showcase the talent we have at the college. We saw some great performances by our athletes; lots of them set personal bests. It was also a great achievement to win this event for the first time.

“I’d also like to say a huge thank you to all the staff and students involved that helped us run the event. Plus, all the officials volunteering their time as well as having to repeat the role again on Saturday for their area championships.  Without their help we would not have been able to do it.
