Plumbing apprentice Ryan through to final of HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year

The search has begun for the 2019 HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year.

Out of the many talented students at SGS College, the plumbing department at the Stroud Campus selected second year apprentice, Ryan Fellowes, to compete for the title.

Joined by SGS plumbing team leader, Lee Wood, Ryan, who works for Gloucester Plumbing and Heating, travelled to Petroc College Tiverton, Tuesday 22 January 2019, to participate in the south west regional heat. Ryan took part in a challenging nine hour competition, where his skills and endurance would be pushed to their limits. Ryan’s hard work and determination paid off, impressing the judges so much that he took home the title of regional winner. Ryan will now go on to the grand final, which will take place at the ADEY head office, 27-28 March 2019.

Alongside the prestige for both the winning student and winning college, there’s a fantastic list of prizes worth up to £10,000 up for grabs. The prizes have been donated by well-known industry names including Platinum sponsor ADEY, Gold sponsor STANLEY, Silver sponsor Vaillant and Bronze sponsors WAGO, Graham The Plumbers’ Merchant, Pegler Yorkshire, Mira Showers, Corgi, Wilo & WaterSafe.

Speaking about Ryan’s success, Lee said:

“The Stroud Campus plumbing team would like to say a massive congratulations to Ryan. He works hard and is always keen to learn new skills and improve. His hard work has certainly paid off. Good Luck in the finals Ryan.”
