Jacob wins Bronze for England
AASE boxer Jacob Croot won a Bronze medal for England last week, at the Three Nations tournament in Rotherham.
The 18 year old from Stockwood is currently studying at SGS College and is also part of the Bristol Academy of Sport Boxing Academy.
Drawn against strong William Stuart from Scotland, England team manager Cliff Perkins said: “Jacob started well, with some good combinations to the head, but a powerful rear hand to the head from Stuart led to a standing count, and as the bout went on the Scottish boxer began to control the pace. Jacob's attempts to push his opponent back were met with effective counters.”
AASE Coach Craig Turner added: “It was very emotional for the travelling Bristol supporters when Jacob came into the ring with the England team and the anthems were played.
“Jacob made a superb start taking the Scot by surprise however, being Jacob's first international he faded in the second round before rallying well in the last.
“On this occasion it wasn't to be however, having opened his international account so well, further England appearances are bound to follow.”
Jacob said: “It was a wonderful experience being on the training camp and then competing for England.
“I am so proud however, disappointed that I didn't go further in the competition but next time it will be a different story.”
