SGS College comes top of national Employer Satisfaction Survey
The national Employer Satisfaction Survey which took place between March and July 2016, has voted South Gloucestershire and Stroud College as the nation’s top employer facing college with a staggering 99.5% satisfaction rate.
More than 60,000 employers gave their views, allowing an insight into the experience they have had with their local college in terms to quality of training and responsiveness received.
SGS College works with many regional employers including South Gloucestershire District Council, the Ministry of Defence, Boeing, Coutts Bank, Bristol City Council and CF Roberts who have all been involved with the survey.
SGS College Principal Sara-Jane Watkins comments: “I am thrilled with the results of the employer satisfaction survey. There are many key elements that have added to the success of these results but I believe it is down to our responsiveness, the bespoke nature of delivery, close account management, offering a highly personal and very effective vacancy matching service for apprenticeships and the provision on offer. We are also highly effective at responding to wider economic needs and over the past four years SGS has worked closely with, and is an active partner in, two Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP). After listening closely to the LEP, employer needs and government initiatives we are in the process of redeveloping the former nuclear laboratories in Berkeley into a campus known as the Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park which will focus on renewable energy and engineering in recognition of the significant developments planned for the region within the nuclear sector, and also the associated backfill needs.
“Our commitment to employer engagement and apprenticeship growth was further evidenced when the SFA selected SGS to host the first national briefing event for the apprenticeship reforms. We have also recently secured some major new apprenticeship contracts including Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council and the National Health Blood and Transplant Service.
“The College now delivers training to over 1000 employers. The College has a targeted approach to develop and increase employer engagement and ensuring all learners experience work through work experience whilst with us. This ensures learners are fully equipped to enter the world of work upon completion of a course with SGS.”
Examples of our responsiveness is evidenced by many of our partners. SGS has worked with local employer EC Merret for many years providing training for their staff. Laura Neno Office Manager said: “SGS have always been very supportive in helping us with the training required for our business. We work closely with the plumbing and electrical department at the Stroud Campus to offer young people work experience which leads to apprenticeships within our business. Without this relationship our business would struggle to meet industry standards.”
Fiona Hammond, Learning and Development Officer, Stroud District Council commented: “The support that we have received from SGS in recent years has exceeded anything we have experienced before.”
