SGS student Olivia Johnson selected for this prestigious national team

Following two days of intensive trials in Nottingham, SGS netball star Olivia Johnson has been selected to join the AoC Sport Netball Squad for 2018. Olivia was one of just 24 players to be selected nationally.

Olivia, who is studying the BTEC level 3 in sport and exercise science is the first netball player at SGS to represent the College at a National level.

The 17-year-old from Bristol will participate in games throughout the year, travelling to locations throughout the UK and Northern Island. Her first fixture took place at Gateshead Academy for Sport,13-14th January, where the team secured victory. The team will travel to Belfast for their next game, which takes place 23-24th February.

Speaking of her daughter’s success, Olivia’s mum comments: “We have watched our daughter grow in confidence so much since joining SGS. Her dedication to her studies at the WISE Campus and commitment to the sport she loves has made us proud beyond words.”

SGS Netball Coach, Lara Gulotta, comments: “Olivia has worked really hard on improving her netball performance in the Academy. This season she has changed position from Goal Attack to Goal Defence and really seems to have found her feet as a defender. Olivia is the first player from SGS to be selected for the Association of Colleges National Team, so needless to say we are all extremely proud of her.”
