Former student’s Balcombe Open Experience

‘The best week of my life so far’ was how Ali Balcombe described his experience competing in The Open championship at St Andrews.

A great support network were there to cheer on the 19 year old, Clevedon club member. From his whole family to old friends from his school and golf club, as well as his former coaches at SGS College, where he spent a successful two years, before his last year in the US on a scholarship at Reivers college.

After two rounds of 74 and 76, in the worst of the conditions, Ali’s game stood up very well under the greatest of pressures. With 9 holes to go in the second round, at +2, (with the cut at Level), there was still a chance he could have been there for the last two rounds. But alas, the tougher back 9 took its toll, and Ali was on his way home. This time.

With graduates of the SGS college programme including England International’s Ben Amor and Jordan Smith and now Ali, along with many other up and coming talents who are close to breaking through, the Hall of Fame is rapidly expanding!
