The annual Ambitions event took place last week on Tuesday and Wednesday October 20-21. It is the largest schools careers event in the South West, co-organised by SGS College in collaboration with UWE and South Gloucestershire Council.
All 2,500 South Gloucestershire Year 9 students bussed in for five interactive workshops in a choice from 30 job sectors, provided by local employers such as GKN, Airbus and North Bristol NHS and MITIE.
SGS College departments also took a leading role alongside other training providers, creatively explaining the jobs and training available in Health Care, Early Years, Engineering, Cyber-security, Games design, Performing and Creative Arts, Broadcasting, Hair and Beauty therapies among others, by using displays, games and state of the art equipment.
In the evening the doors opened again to 1,400 parent and older students to discuss specific career routes, assisted by 12 apprenticeship providers, guidance professionals and 30 sixth forms, FE and HE providers.
John Walker, SGS's Schools Engagement lead said: “parents, verbally and in their written evaluations after the event, repeatedly expressed their satisfaction at the immense help the event gave to their children, from helping them to choose the right subjects for them at school and being inspired into new career areas they had not considered before.”
