How long have you worked at SGS?

I started as a lecturer/tutor in 2005 at the WISE campus, I am now Head of Department for Academic Sport.  The provision spans our Filton, WISE and Stroud Campuses.  It includes in excess of 550 learners, studying full and part time sporting courses.

What do you teach/specialise in?

Pedagogy is my area focus for delivery, which primarily concerns sports coaching and physical education.  However I have a board area of interests and invested learning, such as talent development, performance environments and coach education.

What is the best thing about your job?

The opportunity to be part of the process that can have positive impact on both learners and staff is the real driver for me.  From a personal perspective it is a huge bonus that I get to develop and engage in learning as part of my everyday.

Where did you work previously/doing what?

I am secondary PE trained teacher, I have worked within pre-school, junior, SEN, EBD and secondary schools in England and Wales.

Anything else you would like to include?

I maintain my vocational currency following retiring as a international karate competitor in my role as Head Coach for Karate Wales.  Providing an insight of the challenges our cohorts are confronted with, the team at SGS aspire to inspire.

How long have you worked at SGS?

I have worked at the SGS Stroud Campus since August 2012.

What do you teach/specialise in?

I teach across a range of level 2 and 3 sports courses, I specialise in: anatomy & physiology, physiology of fitness, analysis of sports performance, fitness testing, sports nutrition, exercise and health & lifestyle.

What is the best thing about your job?

Having the rare opportunity to help a student truly blossom and fulfil their potential by challenging them and offering support when they need it. Helping students reach their true potential is one of the things that motivates me and keeps me enthused in my role.

There is probably no better way to stay youthful and on top of the latest trends in fashion, music, movies, technology, and pop culture than to surround myself with dozens of students for hours every day.

Although teaching can definitely be tiring, it also has the power of allowing me to stay young at heart.
