Paulette Languerand

How long have you worked at SGS?

I have worked at SGS for 8 years. 

What do you teach/specialise in?

I am currently the Head of Department.
I have taught all of the subjects on the courses we offer.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is helping both learners and staff fulfil their potential in the most enjoyable way possible.  I believe in education is lifelong as can be seen my continued learning.  I have a BA (hons) in Education with Psychology, a BSc in Life Sciences, PGCE in Post 16 Education and PgDip in Health and Exercise, First Aid and Work and Paediatric First Aid.

Where did you work previously/doing what?

I have been working in Education since 1996.  I have worked in four Further Education Colleges, a Sixth Form, and two Private schools.  I have worked with children from 3 years of age up to adulthood, including some with disabilities such as learners with Asperger's Syndrome and Downs Syndrome.  I have managed and taught courses from many awarding bodies.  I am a mother so also have the experience of childcare for birth onwards.  Prior to this I was a manager of an outdoor education centre for schools.

Anything else you would like to include?

I believe in a healthy body and a healthy mind spending as much time outdoors as possible.  I walk my dogs daily and practice yoga.  This enables me to be energetic and focussed in work.

What do you teach/specialise in?

Course Leader for the Early Years Educator Level 3

What is the best thing about your job?

My experiences in Early Years and Leadership have empowered me to share that knowledge with our young students as they embark on their Early Years studies. 

Where did you work previously/doing what?

I have been in education for over 20 years. I've taught 3-5 year olds with special needs for 6 years, 0-3 year old in their homes for 3 months and I was a teaching assistant for 4 months in a reception class for a 4 year old with autism. 

Anything else you would like to include?

I am from America and moved to Berkeley in October 2012.  My family has loved living in the area and I look forward to an exciting year of learning. My qualifications include: a BSc in Education; Major Special Education – LD; option Early Childhood, MEd in Special Education Early Childhood (Birth – 5) and a Master of Education in Special Education Administration.

What do you teach/specialise in?

Course Leader for Early Years Level 2

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is seeing the learners progress through their studies.

Where did you work previously/doing what?

I have been working with children for 25 years. I have worked as a private nanny and in various private nursery schools. I’m also a primary school teacher, having taught children from reception through to Year 6. I have also ran a child-minding business and worked for a forest school.

Anything else you would like to include?

I’m a NNEB Nursery Nurse and Primary School teacher. My qualifications include NNEB Nursery Nurse, BED(Hons) 2:1, Primary Teaching Post-Graduate Certificate in Professional Development.
