Level 1 Sport
Full time course
Our Level 1 Sport programme is designed to introduce learners to the exciting world of sport and leisure. Industry experts will teach a combination of theory and practical sessions and learners will take part in a minimum of 36 hours work experience with local organisations to experience real-life delivery to groups of participants.
The programme covers key modules that will provide learners with a valuable insight to the sector and may include subjects such as anatomy and physiology, coaching children, taking part in sport, planning and leading sports events and units covering what it takes to work in the sport and leisure industry.
What will I study?
Modules covered may include subjects such as anatomy and physiology, coaching children, taking part in sport, planning and leading sports events and units covering what it takes to work in the Sport and Leisure Industry.
Maths & English
As part of the programme and vital to future employment and progression, learners will undertake 1.5 hours of Maths and English each week.
Learners on this course will undertake a minimum of 36 hours work experience with local organisations in the delivery of sporting opportunities, in order to experience real-life delivery to groups of participants.
There may be an opportunity to study additional qualifications whilst on this course.
What do I need to join?
Learners will have two GCSEs at grade 2 in English and maths.

How will I learn?
Sessions will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons, and, wherever possible, underpinning theory will also be demonstrated in a practical context. There will be a variety of assessment methods used (such as written assessments, observations, presentations and discussions), and learners will gain a thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce.
How will I know how I am doing?
Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behaviour and punctuality as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.
Are there any extra costs?
Learners will be charged a materials fee, which will be used to purchase resources for the learners to use on the course to facilitate educational study visits and to support the learning taking place.
What can I do next?
Learner can progress to a Level 2 Sport qualification following the successful completion of their Level 1 Programme, or apply for an apprenticeship in a related field. In both instances, learners will receive support from their tutor and our careers team to complete applications.
