Level 2 Technical in Sport and Activity Leaders
Full time course
This programme enables learners to combine leadership skills with a passion for sport and the outdoors. With theory-based units as well as practical activities, trips and a minimum of 36 hours of work experience, learners will be perfectly placed to pursue a career in leading sport and activity sessions. This course has been developed in consultation with employers to maximise employment opportunities.
What will I study?
Modules covered may include Leading Sport Safely & Effectively, Working in Sport & Activity leadership, Leading Sport & Physical Activity, Coaching Sport, Developing Skills for Sport & Activity Leadership, Leading Different Groups, Delivering a Sports Event
Maths & English
As part of the programme and vital to future employment and progression, learners will undertake a maximum of 6 hours of Maths and English each week.
Learners on this course will undertake a minimum of 36 hours work experience with local organisations in the delivery of sporting opportunities, in order to experience real-life delivery to groups of participants.
What do I need to join?
Learners will have three GCSEs at grade 4 (c) or above, includingEnglish or maths.
How long is the course?
How will I learn?
Sessions will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons, and, wherever possible underpinning theory will also be demonstrated in a practical context. There will be a variety of assessment methods used (written assessments, observations, presentations and discussions being some) and learners will have a thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce.
How will I know how I am doing?
Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behaviour and punctuality as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.
Are there any extra costs?
Learners will be charged a materials fee, which will be used to purchase resources for the learners to use on the course, to facilitate educational study visits and to support the learning taking place.
What can I dp next?
Upon successful completion of your programme of study, learners will be able to progress onto a Level 3 (A-level equivalent) sport qualification. Those who do not wish to pursue this route may apply for an apprenticeship in a related field.
What are my career options?
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to join the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) as a level 2 fitness instructor.
Employment opportunities as a fitness instructor exist in a variety of gym-based settings, including:

• Hotels and spas.
