Full time course

Summary

This inspiring programme will develop your performance skills and understanding of the performing arts industry. You will develop your knowledge and skills through a range of performance-based projects accompanied by demonstrations and guidance from your industry experienced tutors. Learners are given opportunities to perform for the public and local schools throughout the year as well as attending regular trips to the theatre. The course work is largely student-led and requires you to think creatively with boldness and aspiration.

What will I study?

You will study nine units, covering a variety of acting, musical, performing and dance skills. This will lead to a final group project at the end of the year.

Maths & English

A key requirement to obtaining many jobs is achieving a good standard of English and Maths. Therefore, learners who do not yet have a GCSE grade C will be enrolled on either GCSE or Functional Skills programmes alongside their main course.

Employability

The performing arts and leisure industry is one of the few areas in the jobs market that has sustained levels of employment and even shown areas of growth in the present economic climate. This course is very much rooted in the local community and the day-to-day delivery involves networking and marketing with possible future employers.

Work experience

You will gain work experience engaging with the local community in performing and production roles.

What do I need to join?

Four GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) or above. Performance experience is useful but not essential; however, passion and enthusiasm for the performing arts is a must!

How long is the course?

1 year.

How will I learn?

Through a range of performance-based projects accompanied by demonstrations and guidance from your tutor. Learners are given opportunities to perform for the public and local schools throughout the year as well as attending regular trips to the theatre. The course work is largely student-led and requires you to think creatively with boldness and aspiration.

How will I know how I am doing?

Coursework will be set with clear regular feedback and structured achievable targets. Regular individual tutorials and group discussions will also take place.

Are there any extra costs?

There may be costs to cover materials fees.

What can I do next?

Learners who successfully complete the qualification, and all other elements of their study programme, may progress to a Level 3 qualification within the performing arts department or the wider college.

What are my career options?

Learners can progress onto higher level courses, which could lead to a career in theatre, film, video and TV production, events management, sales and performance coaching.
