Foundation Degree in Drama and Performance
Drama and/or Dance at AS/A2 Level, l Diploma in Dance/Drama, AVCE in Performing Arts. An overall Merit grade will be expected. Students without a formal qualification will be considered individually.
With a strong emphasis on devised and original work, this dynamic course offers you the opportunity to explore your potential as a theatre maker. Through practical workshops, self-directed projects, lectures and full-scale productions, you can expect to develop your vocal and physical skills in a range of acting techniques and to apply them in ensemble, autobiographical, site-based and studio-based performances. Directing, playwriting, workshop leading and work placements form an integral part of the course, putting you in a strong position for entry into theatre or related industries.
The course is delivered at the South West Academy of Dramatic Arts which has excellent facilities, including the 200 seat Olympus Theatre, the Loft Studio Theatre, four dance studios, acting studios and technical workshops. Underpinning all our work is an understanding of the influence of key theories and practitioners, and a growing spirit of inquiry into the possibilities of your own theatre practice.
Taught by active industry practitioners, the course provides links and performance opportunities at a local, national and international level. These have included Lecoq training in Paris, performance at a Live Art festival in Berlin and an interdisciplinary project in Serbia.
