Level 2 Creative Media Production
Full time course
Our media department provides learners with opportunities to gain professional skills using industry standard equipment, taught by industry experts.
What will I study?
This practical course has three phases. To start with, you’ll learn a set of key media skills, including editing with Photoshop and Premiere and how to handle a range of DSLRs and video cameras. Next, you will work as part of a team to create a media project in response to a brief. Finally, you get the chance to design and create your own media product, which could be anything from a short film to a photo gallery or website.
Maths & English
You will study Functional Skills Maths and English and you will have the opportunity to improve your GCSE Maths and English to grade 4 (grade C) or above if appropriate.
The Media and Leisure Industry is one of the few areas in the jobs market that has sustained levels of employment and even shown areas of growth in the present economic climate.
There are no specific off-site opportunities at this level, but students will participate in video shoots and other production opportunities both within the college and on location, including at our extensive range of performing arts shows, sporting matches and competitions.
What do I need to join?
Level 1 or 2 qualification, Introductory Certificate in a related subject, four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade D), or related work experience for older students.

How will I learn?
Through a range of media-based projects accompanied by demonstrations and guidance from your tutor.
How will I know how I am doing?
Coursework is set with clear regular feedback and structured achievable targets. Regular individual tutorials and group discussions will also be held throughout the course.
Are there any extra costs?
There is a materials fee payable at enrolment, which will contribute to the cost of equipment and local trips. Any residential visits will incur extra costs.
What can I do next?
Learners who successfully complete the qualification, and all other elements of their study programme, may progress to Level 3 Diploma in Media or Computer Games or another Level 3 qualification at SGS
What are my career options?
Students can progress onto higher level courses that could lead into careers in broadcasting, sound production, publishing or film, video or TV production.
