Level 2 Sport Coaching
Full time course
This in depth programme will give learners the expertise required to start a career in the sport industry and has a particular focus on sports coaching. Through training sessions, coaching masterclasses, theory session, trips and a minimum of 36 hours work experience, learners will gain the knowledge required to plan, deliver and evaluate sports coaching sessions and programmes.
What will I study?
Modules covered will include participating in sport, sports coaching and developing sporting skills and tactical awareness in sport. Optional units include physical fitness and injury, performance analysis, work experience in the sports industry and anatomy and physiology for exercise.
Maths & English
As part of the programme and vital to future employment and progression, learners will undertake 3 hours of Maths or English each week.
Learners on this course will undertake a minimum of 36 hours work experience with local organisations in the delivery of fitness-based activites, in order to experience real-life delivery to individuals and groups of participants.
What do I need to join?
Learners will have three GCSEs at grade 3 (D) , including English and maths.

How will I learn?
Sessions will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons, and, wherever possible, underpinning theory will also be demonstrated in a practical context. There will be a variety of assessment methods used (such as written assessments, observations, presentations and discussions), and learners will gain a thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce.
How will I know how I am doing?
Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behavior and punctuality as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.
Are there any extra costs?
Learners will be charged a materials fee, which will be used to purchase resources for the learners to use on the course, to facilitate educational study visits and to support the learning taking place.
What can I do next?
Upon successful completion of your programme of study, learners may progress to a Level 3 (A-level equivalent) sport qualification. Those who do not wish to follow this route may apply for an apprenticeship in a related field.
What are my career options?
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to join the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) as a level 2 fitness instructor.
Employment opportunities as a fitness instructor exist in a variety of gym-based settings, including:
