Level 2 Certificate in Plumbing

Full time course

This course is aimed at 16–18 year olds and is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required as a plumber. You will study key modules including health and safety and hot and cold water systems.

What will I study?

  • Health & safety
  • Hot and cold water systems

Maths and English

Learners who have not achieved grade 4 (grade C) or above in Maths and English will be given additional support to improve these skills.

Work experience

All courses include opportunities for learners to experience working in a construction environment. This gives the learner the opportunity to develop their skills in their chosen trade and will assist with progression choices. You will also take part in a community project to further enhance your practical skills.

In conjunction with obtaining a trade qualification and practical experience, learners will also develop other skills, such as interview techniques and CV preparation, to prepare them for the world of work.

What do I need to join?

Ideally, you will have completed a Level 1 qualification or have some experience within the industry. Preferably, you will have two GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) in English and maths: however, this is not essential. You will be required to attend an interview and a maths and English assessment.

How long is the course?

1 year, with attendance required of 2.5 days a week, which includes enrichment, work experience and tutorial days.

How will I learn?

Experience will be gained in the workshop, through practical activities and assessments. Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in the classroom and IT suite, where study will be interactive and informative.

How will I know how I am doing?

Targets will be set and agreed with your tutor; you will receive regular feedback and one-to-one reviews to ensure that you are on track to achieve your goals.

Are there any extra costs?

Material fees will be required on enrolment. Financial support is available in certain.

What can I do next?

After successful completion, you can progress onto the Level 2 Plumbing Diploma.

What are my career options?

Opportunities in the building services sector include plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation and renewable technologies. You could also employed as a plumbers mate.
