Level 1 Plumbing

Full time course

Summary

This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required in the building services sector, which offers many different career paths. You will study practical plumbing skills, structure of the construction industry, sustainability in the construction industry, explore health, safety and welfare in the construction industry and plumbing science

What will I study?

Maths and English

Learners who have not achieved grade 4 (grade C) or above in Maths and English will be given additional support to improve these skills.

Work experience

All courses include opportunities for learners to experience working in a construction environment– this may be with employers, a community project or a project within the college campus. This gives learners the opportunity to develop their skills in their chosen trade and will assist with their progression choices.

Employability

In conjunction with obtaining a trade qualification and practical experience, learners will also develop other skills, such as interview techniques and CV preparation, to prepare them for the world of work.

What do I need to join?

A short interview together with a skills assessment will be necessary to ensure the level of the scheme is appropriate for you. You will also be required to complete a Maths and English assessment.

How long is the course?

1 year, with attendance required of 2.5 days a week, which includes Maths, English, enrichment, work experience and tutorial days, to further support you in your chosen career within the industry.

How will I learn?

Practical experience will be gained in the workshop through practical activities and assessments. Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in the classroom and IT suite, where study will be interactive and informative.

What can I do next?

After successful completion, you can progress to Level 2 Certificate in Plumbing Studies or an apprenticeship can be gained if suitable employment is found.

Tuition Fees

Between the ages of 16-18 you do not need to pay tuition or exam fees for your course. If you are between the ages of 19 and 23 and have not achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification before, you will not need to pay tuition, exam or material fees using the Level 2 or 3 Entitlement. If you are aged 19 or over, studying a Level 3-6 and a Level 3 Entitlement does not apply, you will need to pay the full cost of the course.
