Level 1 Electrical

Full time course

Summary

This course is designed for those that wish to work in the building services sector. You will have the chance to gain the skills and qualifications required to enter employment in the industry. This programme is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required in the construction sector and key modules include practical electrical skills and preparing for work placements. 

What will I study?

This course is aimed at 16–18 years olds and is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required in the construction sector, and includes:

  • Practical electrical skills
  • Preparing for work placements
  • Functional skills.

Maths and English

Learners who have achieved grade 4 (grade C) or above in Maths and English will be given additional support to improve these skills.

Employability

In conjunction with obtaining a trade qualification and practical experience, learners will also develop other skills, such as interview techniques and CV preparation, to prepare them for the world of work. All courses include opportunities for learners to experience working in a construction environment. This gives the learner the opportunity to develop their skills in their chosen trade and will assist with progression choices.

What do I need to join?

You will need two GCSEs at grade 2 (E) or above, in English and maths. A short interview together with assessments in maths, English and trade skills will be necessary to ensure the level of the course is appropriate for you.

How long is the course?

1 year, with attendance required of 2.5 days a week.

How will I learn?

Practical experience will be gained in the workshop, through practical activities and assessments. Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in the classroom and IT suite, where study will be interactive and informative.

How will I know how I am doing?

Targets will be set and agreed with your tutor. You will receive regular feedback and one-to-one reviews with your tutor, to ensure that you are on track to achieve your goals.

Material fees will be required on enrolment. Financial support is available in certain circumstances

After successful completion you can progress onto Level 2 Electrical Installations.

What are my career options?

Opportunities in the building services sector include electrical, electronics, renewable technologies and electrical or mechanical engineering.

Tuition Fees

Between the ages of 16-18 you do not need to pay tuition or exam fees for your course. If you are between the ages of 19 and 23 and have not achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification before, you will not need to pay tuition, exam or material fees using the Level 2 or 3 Entitlement. If you are aged 19 or over, studying a Level 3-6 and a Level 3 Entitlement does not apply, you will need to pay the full cost of the course.
