Full time course
This programme has been designed to further develop skills and knowledge, enabling learners to work to an advanced level in the construction and building industry and become a highly skilled crafts person. You will study safe working practices, information, quantities and communicating, building methods and construction technology, organising and planning brickwork, setting out, solid walling, isolated and attached piers, decorative brickwork and arches, buttresses and tumbled-in buttresses and fire places and chimneys.

Learners who have not achieved grade 4 (grade C) or above in Maths and English will be given additional support to improve these skills.
All courses include opportunities for learners to experience working in a construction environment– this may be with employers, a community project or a project within the college campus. This gives learners the opportunity to develop their skills in their chosen trade and will assist with progression choices.
In conjunction with obtaining a trade qualification and practical experience learners, will also develop other skills, such as interview techniques and CV preparation, to prepare them for the world of work.
What do I need to join?
Candidates will ideally have completed the Level 2 Diploma or can demonstrate knowledge of the trade and complete a skills assessment.
How long is the course?
1 year, with attendance required of 2.5 days a week, which includes Maths, English, enrichment, work experience and tutorial days, to further support you in your chosen career within the industry.
How will I learn?
Practical experience will be gained in the workshop, through practical activities.Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in the classroom and IT suite, where study will be interactive and informative.
How will I know how I am doing?
Targets will be set and agreed with your tutor; you will receive regular feedback and one to one reviews to ensure that you are on track to achieve your goals. Your practical work will also be assessed by your tutor and your portfolio will be assessed by our internal verification team. Parents can also monitor progress through the Pro Monitor portal.

NVQ level 3 / Employment.
What are my career options?
There are many different specialist roles within the industry. Employers will be looking for a minimum of level 2 NVQ or an apprenticeship at an equivalent level. This course provides an excellent foundation upon which to build a career within the construction industry.
