Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Creative Computing
Full time course
This course provides you with an excellent route to enter a career in the IT industry or higher education. With the support of our experienced and committed teaching team, you will gain knowledge of a range of areas, including software development, website and games development and digital graphics and animation.
All learners taking this qualification will be required to engage with sector employers as part of their course. This could be, for example, through work experience or through being assessed by industry practitioners for relevant units.
What will I study?

Building Computer Systems (Core)
Digital Graphics and Animation
Human Computer Interaction
IT Systems Security (Core)
Mobile App Development
Planning and Management of Computing Projects (Core)
Principles of Computer Science (Core)
Maths and English
Depending on previous qualifications, GCSE resits, and/or Functional Skills in Maths and/or English will be studied alongside your study programme.
There is a Communications and Employability Skills unit as part of the course.
What do I need to join?
You will require motivation, enthusiasm, self-discipline and the ability to carry out independent study.
You will need at least five GCSEs at grade 5 or above,including English and maths.
How long is the course?
2 years. First year is the 90 Credit Diploma progressing to the second year Extended Diploma.
How will I learn?
You will learn through lectures, practical classes, by using specialist and industry standard software in the classroom and research by undertaking projects. You will also be able to access course material online via a virtual learning environment. At the time of writing, we expect examinations to be a part of the assessment process alongside coursework assignments. However, the awarding body is updating this qualification, so this may be subject to change.
How will I know how I am doing?
You will receive coursework grades and frequent feedback from your tutors. You will also be able to monitor your progress using detailed online grading sheets.
Are there any extra costs?
There may be fees for the cost of text books, trips, visits and specialist equipment. Typical examples of trips and visits include: team building trips, visits to universities, visits from guest speakers.
What can I do next?
Learners can progress to a university level course, apprenticeship or move directly into employment.
What are my career options?
This is a broad-based course which, will keep your options open. Students can move directly into jobs as IT technicians, junior programmers or web developers. If you progress to university, there are further opportunities to specialise in computer science, forensic computing, cyber security, games development, network management or systems analysis.
