Level 2 Beauty Therapy

Full time course


This qualification is designed to enable learners to enter the exciting world of the beauty therapy industry. It provides learners with the opportunity to learn in our modern, up-todate professional salons using state-of-theart equipment. You will also have the chance to take part in trips to beauty shows and participate in competitions.

Learners will gain the knowledge and experience that is required to progress towards careers as a mobile therapist, spa therapist and beauty salon therapist.

What will I study?

Here is a snapshot of the core and additional units you will study throughout the year:

  • Manicure
  • Pedicure
  • Facial therapy
  • Promotion and sales
  • Application of make-up.
  • Eye treatments
  • Waxing
  • Professionalism, retail and employability skills
  • Realistic commercial salon environment

Maths and English:

You will be given the opportunity to improve and advance your skills in both subjects, enabling you to progress in your studies or career. For students who have a GCSE grade D in English or Maths, you will have the opportunity to improve and achieve a grade C.

Work Experience:

Your tutor will discuss this with you. It's expected that all learners will undertake an amount of work experience within the industry.

Additional Qualifications:

At an extra cost and your tutor's discretion, there may be opportunities to increase your skills by undertaking additional qualifications relevant to the industry. These may include ear piercing, spray tanning and much more. Your tutor will inform you of these opportunities throughout your programme.


You will be ready for work in the cosmetic industry or on a cosmetic counter. You may also be able to work as a Mobile Therapist or as a Junior Beauty Therapist within a salon working towards your level 3 qualification.

What do I need to join?

Learners will possess three GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, as well as providing a positive reference and undertaking a successful skills assessment.

How long is the course?

1 year, approximately 3 days per week to include one late evening.

How will I learn?

The course lasts for 1 year, attending approximately 3 days per week.

How will I know how I am doing?

You will be assessed through observation of practical assessments, assignments and examinations. Experienced tutors will closely monitor and guide you through techniques to ensure you are meeting and exceeding industry standards. You will have personal one-to-one tutorials to review your progress regularly.

Are there any extra costs?

You will be required to purchase a uniform and kit which will cover the duration of your course and a materials fee upon enrolment. There may also be extra charges for any trips you go on.

What can I do next?

Upon successful completion of this qualification, and by meeting the required progression criteria, learners may progress to the Level 3 qualification at SGS which will provide you with further training and experience and equip you with the additional skills that are required to work in this exciting industry. Alternatively, learners can apply for an apprenticeship in a related field.

Tuition Fees

Between the ages of 16-18 you do not need to pay tuition or exam fees for your course. If you are between the ages of 19 and 23 and have not achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification before, you will not need to pay tuition, exam or material fees using the Level 2 or 3 Entitlement. If you are aged 19 or over, studying a Level 3-6 and a Level 3 Entitlement does not apply, you will need to pay the full cost of the course. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the fees. Please contact the College directly for the most up to date fees – these may be subject to change.
