Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapies
Full time course
This qualification provides a full range of massage skills that have become very popular in recent years and are highly desirable by employers in the industry. In addition to these practical skills, you will study a range of underpinning knowledge about the body systems as well as an understanding of health and well-being. The skills gained from this course will enable you to work in a spa, beauty salon, cruise ships or even start up your own business.
What will I study?
Modules studied may include Swedish body massage, Indian head massage, hot and cold stone therapy, history and origin of complimentary therapies, maintaining personal health and wellbeing and health and safety.
Maths and English:
You will be given the opportunity to improve and advance your skills in both subjects, enabling you to progress in your studies or career. For students who have a GCSE grade D or below in Maths, you will work to improve your grade alongside your course. You will study at a level suited to your knowledge and understanding.
At an extra cost and your tutor's discretion, there may be opportunities to increase your skills and gain extra qualifications throughout your programme relevant to the industry; including thermal auricular therapy, crystal therapy, and Indian head massage. Your tutor will inform you of these opportunities.
You will discuss this with your tutor. Links with local employers allow you to experience working in a complementary therapy centre and a variety of local care homes.

What do I need to join?
You will have three GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, and must have a suitable reference, good manual dexterity and verbal communication as well being professional, mature and caring.
How long is the course?
The course runs for 1 year.
How will I learn?
You will have a mixture of practical sessions in the salon and classroom based lessons teaching underpinning knowledge. You will be expected to perform demonstrations on models, other students and once you are at a specific standard and ability, paying clients of the salon. You will also have the opportunity to go on residential trips visiting specialised shows and establishments.
How will I know how I am doing?
You will be assessed through observation of practical assessments, assignments and written examinations. You will also work with members of the general public who visit our salons and often provide feedback about their treatments. Regular reviews with your tutor will provide you with feedback on your progress.
Are there any extra costs?
Material fees will be due at enrolment. There will be extra costs for uniform, kit and optional trips. As previously mentioned, there may be costs for any additional courses you choose to do.
What can I do next?
You may enter employment or further your studies by taking, for example, a higher education qualification in complementary therapies or a qualification in sports massage, physiotherapy or another specialist therapy.
What are my career options?
Completion of this qualification will provide you with career opportunities such as work in a complementary therapies practice, mobile spa/ therapist, cruise liners, beauty salon and in the hospice / care home environment.
