About this course:
This course is suitable for the committed student who wants to engage in their study of stained glass. You can develop all your craft skills, try out new techniques and work on individual project work. This is a really great opportunity for you to develop a programme of study that suits your needs and work along side other enthusiastic and productive students.
What will I learn?
You can develop all your design and fabrication skills for leading or copper foil work as well as experiment with Fusing, Kiln fired glass paint/stain/enamels and etch frosting. If you enrol on the 20 week Autumn and Spring course, you will be able to enrol for the L1 AIM Award: Skills in the Creative and Cultural Sector leading to certification in the Stained Glass Unit. (Qualifications 600/7071/7: Y/504/4444 Creative Craft Skills Unit & R/504/4779 Stained Glass Unit)
After that, you can progress to the L2 AIM Award: Skills in the Creative & Cultural Sector: (Qualifications 600/7071/7: D/504/4445 Creative Craft Skills Unit & D/504/4512 Design Project Unit).
If you have already achieved these qualifications you can enrol on the practical class which sits alongside it.
How will I learn
You can negotiate your programme of study at the beginning of the course and the tutor will deliver appropriate demonstrations to suit the group and individual needs. There is time to experiment and make tests, before applying what you have learnt to a specific project of your choice. The tutor will help you and check your work to make sure you are progressing well. There will be one to one feedback and group appreciation
Do I need previous experience?
It is beneficial to have at least 3 terms of previous experience in Stained Glass or at least 1 term of stained glass if you have a lot of other experience within art and design. Contact the tutor firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to discuss the course suitability for you.
What can I do next?
You can enrol from September on the Thursday evening All levels course, or enrol on the Easter or Summer intensive Stained Glass course, as well as other arts courses at the college.
What should I bring to my first class?
A notebook and sturdy shoes (no open toe sandals). Any designs and doodles that you may want to develop to discuss with the tutor.

No, all materials provided are included in the course fee.
Who is my tutor?
RUTH ADAMS has taught Fired Stained Glass Painting at Central Saint Martins where she previously completed her postgraduate studies in glass with Distinction. She taught stained glass for 10 years at The City Literary Institute in Central London. Ruth relocated to Stroud where she works as a practicing artist and set up the glass department within the Arts School at Stroud campus. She is a respected educator within this field with an enormous amount of experience and enthusiasm to help you engage with this fantastic subject.
