Level 2 Travel and Tourism
Full time course
Level 2 Travel and Tourism requires you to have an interest in other cultures, countries and the travel and tourism industry as a whole. This Level 2 qualification provides a detailed study of the travel and tourism industry. The qualification is designed to provide you with a solid understanding of the tourism industry and the additional skills needed to progress into the next study level or to secure employment.
What will I study?
You will study a range of subjects to give you an insight into the industry, including:
Worldwide and UK destinations
Principles of customer service in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism
Travel and tourism support services and visitor attractions.
Maths and English
A key requirement to obtaining many jobs is achieving a good standard of English and Maths. Therefore, learners that do not yet have a GCSE grade C will be enrolled on either GCSE or Functional Skills programmes alongside their main course.
You may also have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications, such as a hospitality or customer service course.
All students take part in a week's work experience within the travel and tourism industry. We encourage and provide support to those who wish to gain experience in the world of travel and tourism and can offer contacts to assist with arranging this.
During your time on this course, you will develop the skills that employers are really looking for, such as communication, numeracy, presentation skills, analysis, interpretation, application and the evaluation of information. All students are guaranteed an interview with a national hotel chain on completion of their course.
What do I need to join?
The minimum entry requirement for this course is 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D), preferably in core subjects such as Maths and English, or you may have already achieved a Level 1 Pass in Travel and Tourism plus 2 Functional Skills at Entry 3 or above.
How long is the course?
1 year course. On completion, you will receive a level 2 qualification in Travel and Tourism along with any additional qualifications taken.
How will I learn?
All learning is premised on real-life vocational examples. This means that you will fully participate in your educational experience. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of educational visits, ranging from day trips to residential visits in the UK and oversees. Assessment will be predominantly coursework based but some of the units will be examination assessed.
How will I know how I am doing?
Your tutor will give regular feedback so that you can see how you are progressing through the course and what level you are currently working at. Our expert tutors are always on hand to assist you and help you achieve the grades you want.
Are there any extra costs?
Materials fees (non-refundable) and trips – these can be paid for in instalments.
What can I do next?
Upon successful completion of the Level 2 qualification, learners can either progress onto the Level 3 Travel programme or an apprenticeship. Many learners top up their skills by completing the Certificate in Air Industry Services (Ground & Air).
What are my career options?
There are a wide range of jobs in the travel and tourism or hospitality industries and this course will more than prepare you for those jobs. However, you may also wish to consider an apprenticeship or employment in a different field as many of the skills you learn are transferable to other sectors too.
