GCSE Film Studies
Full time course
GCSE Film Studies will appeal to students interested in all forms of film: in the past, we have focused on superheroes and non-Hollywood films, such as “Yasmin”. Film is an important and engaging part of many people’s lives. Those who choose to take Film Studies bring with them a huge amount of excitement and enthusiasm for film which motivates them in their course and future careers.
What will I study?
Superhero films, non-Hollywood films and the language of films. Learners can study up to 5 GCSEs as part of their GCSE study programme.
What do I need to join?
Students will normally (but not always) have already achieved a grade 3 (grade D) in GCSE English.
How long is the course?
How will I learn?
You will produce two main controlled assessments; one micro-analysis of a film, the other a marketing campaign for a new film.
How will I know how I am doing?
Regular feedback from assignments from your tutor. There are two exams at the end of the course, which count towards your final grade.
What can I do next?
GCSEs provide an excellent foundation to progress into both technical and academic pathways as well as being seen by employers as a key qualification for progressing in the workplace. After GCSEs, many of our students go on to study A Levels and Level 3 vocational programmes at SGS. Entry onto the GCSE Plus Programme will be assessed on an individual basis at an interview and all applicants will undertake initial assessments in English, maths and science.
