Level 1 Plastering
Full time course
This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for students seeking to embark on a career in Plastering.
What will I study?
Students will be working in a modern workshop environment and will be learning skills in a range of trade areas including Plastering & Maintenance. Learners will also study associated skills in Brickwork, Painting and Plumbing. Theory classes are also delivered and include relative trade knowledge including Health and Safety, Management of Materials. Other lessons will include Maths and English in line with government requirements.
Maths and English:
Those that haven't achieved GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English will be given additional support to improve these skills in line with government requirements.
In conjunction with obtaining a trade qualification and practical experience learners will also develop other skills such as interview techniques and CV preparation to prepare them for the world of work.
All courses include opportunities for learners to experience working in a construction environment, this may be with employers, a community project or a project with in the college campus. This gives learners the opportunity to develop their skills in their chosen trade and assists with progression choices.
What do I need to join?
You will need two GCSEs at grade 2 (E) or above, in English and maths. A short interview together with assessments in maths, English and trade skills will be necessary to ensure the level of the course is appropriate for you.
How long is the course?
1 year with weekly attendance of 2 days which includes Maths, English, enrichment, work experience and tutorial days, to further support you in your chosen career within the industry.
How will I learn?
Practical experience will be gained in the workshop through practical activities and assessments. Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in the classroom and IT suite where study will be interactive and informative.
How will I know how I am doing?
Targets will be set and agreed with your tutor, you will receive regular feedback and one to one reviews to ensure that you are on track to achieve your goals. Your practical work will also be assessed by your tutor and your portfolio will be assessed by our internal verification team. Parents can also monitor progress through the Pro Monitor Portal

What can I do next?
After successful completion, you can progress to a Diploma Level 2 in Plastering.
What are my career options?
There are many different specialist roles within the industry. Employers will be looking for a minimum of level 2 NVQ or an apprenticeship at an equivalent level. This course provides an excellent foundation upon which to build a career within the construction industry.
