There are no formal entry requirements for the knowledge based unit. For the practical units you will need to be operating as a quality assurer (previously known as internal verifier) assuring the quality of evidence presented by an assessor on behalf of a learner demonstrates knowledge, understanding and/or ability. The units are open to those who work on accredited and non-accredited courses.
What will they learn:
You will learn how to work to national standards of good practice when quality assuring the assessment of others. A choice of units will allow you to decide what level of competence is best suited to your role. That might be a manager, a team leader, an internal verifier or other. You will gain an understanding of the principles that underpin quality of assessment and how to determine the relevance and quality of evidence and support the assessor in making these decisions.
What else do I need to know?
The first unit is for those who wish to gain an understanding of the background knowledge of the role and responsibility of a quality assurer in assessment, e.g. managers, or those are directly responsible for quality assurance of assessment. The second Award is for those who are responsible for overseeing the quality of assessment. The Certificate is for those who lead on the internal quality assurance process within a centre/organisation.
How will they learn:
The qualification includes the following modules: Unit 4: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment This first unit which is mandatory will involve you gaining the background knowledge in overseeing quality. This will be achieved by attendance at 4 x 3 hour sessions and the production of evidence of your underpinning knowledge of the principles and practice required. Unit 5 Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment & Unit 8: Plan, Allocate & Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility These last two units will be assessed in your workplaces at times that have been agreed with your assessor and there are flexible start times with all these units. You will agree an action plan with your assessor to determine what evidence you will submit and this will include observations of your own assessment in action.
