Summary

Are you curious about what makes people behave the way they do? Do you want to know how your memory works? Or how to handle stress? If so, Psychology is the course for you!

What will I study?

This qualification offers the chance to try to understand ourselves as people in the modern world. This course provides an opportunity to reflect and consider human behaviour and the workings of the human mind. Psychology is, the science of mind and behaviour, therefore a sound understanding of scientific concepts and research methods is essential. Throughout this exciting course, you will learn about many aspects of a person's behaviour, abilities and development from birth to death. The issues covered are very diverse, from how and why we form attachments to parents to the development of complex mental disorders such as schizophrenia as well as how memory works and how psychological research can be used to understand criminal behaviour.

What do I need to join?

To join the full time A Level Programme you need at least 5 full GCSEs grades 9–5 (A*–C), including English Language and Maths.
In addition for A Level Psychology you need grade 9-6 in Combined Science or GCSE Biology grade 9- 6 or BTEC Applied Science Merit grade.

How long is the course?

2 years.

How will I learn?

Students are expected to study hard and engage with the subject both in and out of the classroom. Throughout this course, students will be examining and critically analysing established research conducted by psychologists. Students will be taught how to write essays in a formal scientific style as well as how to develop revision strategies to perform well under exam conditions. There will be opportunities to conduct psychological investigations in order to consolidate the understanding of research methods, knowledge that is an essential requirement of the course. The teaching content is delivered through a number of different techniques catering towards a variety of different student learning styles.

How will I know how I am doing?

Tutors work closely with students to ensure they reach their full potential. The course is assessed through examination.

What are my career options?

Psychology is equally well-recognised by employers: At A Level it provides students with a number of desirable skills for a wide variety of vocations, such as Personnel Management, Media, Public Research and Marketing.

Psychology is a popular course at degree level, and is essential if you are hoping to become a professional in fields such as Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology or Forensic Psychology. Tuition Fees

If you are between the ages of 19 and 23 and have not achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification before, you will not need to pay tuition, exam or material fees using the Level 2 or 3 Entitlement.
