Welcome to SGS WISE
SGS WISE (the West of England Institute of Specialist Education) was opened in 2005 as a brand new state-of-the-art vocational centre for sport and the arts. SGS WISE delivers outstanding teaching, training and learner services for students, along with outstanding sports and arts facilities that are unrivalled in the South West.
The campus is home to the Bristol Academy of Sport, Public Services, the South West Academy of Dramatic Arts, and the Bristol School of Art.
Student life at SGS WISE
SGS WISE is a dynamic and exciting place to be. The campus is located within easy reach of the city of Bristol, and close to SGS Filton, with its wide-ranging modern facilities.
As part of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, our students are represented by an active student council, so you can be sure your views will be listened to and acted upon.
Our learner services team are on hand to answer any questions you may have about your course, your future career, travel or money issues. The College chaplain visits once a week to provide support for all faith groups, and you can get help and advice on personal or health issues from our visiting nurse or college counsellor, or from our online counselling service.
As home to the Bristol Academy of Sport, SGS WISE is the place to be in Bristol if you’re passionate about sport. Our sport students benefit from modern facilities that are unrivalled in the region. They include:

SGS WISE is home to SWADA, the South West Academy of Dramatic Arts. SWADA offers the atmosphere of a drama school combined with the educational opportunities of a college, where students can study a range of performing arts and music courses while performing in plays, musicals and concerts.
Our performing arts students have access to some of the region’s most impressive facilities, including:
Olympus Theatre, seating up to 250 people
The Loft studio theatre, seating up to 100 people
four rehearsal rooms
four dance studios
technical theatre workshop
three dressing rooms
costume and prop stores
As part of Bristol School of Art, WISE campus offers a wide range of creative programmes, with the following facilities:
base studio for all the creative arts students according to their subject
specialist studio for fashion and textiles
specialist studio for printmaking
Apple Macintosh Suite for graphic design and 3D design
Learning resource centre
Our state-of-the-art learning resource centre combines traditional library services with outstanding IT facilities, such as internet access, online journals and databases to help you learn.
It provides a quiet working environment for independent study, as well as group study space. Books covering all course subjects are available, as well as fiction, autobiographies, newspapers, magazines, journals, and DVDs.

Throughout the year we hold advice and enrolment events to help you make the right choices about your education and future career. Our friendly, experienced staff can advise on part-time and full-time courses, and higher education.
These informal events give you the chance to meet the tutors, get information on courses and careers, and experience our state-of-the-art facilities and dynamic, exciting atmosphere for yourself.
Our learner services team will also be on hand to help with any queries about careers, how to apply, money or travel.

We haven’t been inspected by Ofsted since Stroud College and Filton College merged in February 2012 to become South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.

Highlights include being awarded ‘outstanding’ status for our sport, leisure, travel and tourism provision, and ‘good’ status for visual and performing arts, and media.

How to find us
There are lots of ways you can travel to our WISE campus:
Travel by bus to SGS WISE is easy. You can view all bus services within the Bristol area using Bristol City Council’s bus timetables.Alternatively, you can call 0871 200 2233.
Car and motorbike
SGS WISE students have access to free, security-patrolled car parks, with parking available for students with disability. As parking is limited, we strongly encourage car sharing.
If you prefer to cycle to college, SGS WISE has a cycle parking area for students to use, with secure storage for bikes.
Both Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood railway stations are just a ten minute walk from SGS WISE, making train travel a convenient option.

College opening times:
8.30am - 11pm, Monday to Friday
The Hub(Cafe) is open from 08.00am for breakfast club. Learners are allowed no further than reception until 08.30am.
8.30am - 8pm, Saturday and Sunday
The college is closed on bank holidays and over the Christmas period.
