Situated close to the centre of Bristol, SGS Filton is part of the fastest-growing and one of the most dynamic colleges in the region. The campus has excellent facilities, with state-of-the-art IT facilities, Perfect Image Hair and Beauty Salon, and the Bristol Construction Academy.
Our students study everything from A levels and apprenticeships to higher education courses and professional education. We offer one of the widest ranges of skills courses in the region. Student life at SGS Filton
SGS Filton is a dynamic, diverse, and exciting place to be, where students benefit from a supportive and personal approach to their learning. Filton campus is located within easy reach of the centre of Bristol, and close to SGS WISE, our vocational campus, with its unrivalled sports and performing arts facilities.
We have a vibrant student union and a thriving enrichment programme that offers extra classes, trips, events and other activities. Our enrichment programme helps you to get more out of your time at SGS and equips you for success in the future.
As part of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, our students are represented by an active student council, so you can be sure your views will be listened to and acted upon.
Our learner services team will support you throughout your time at college, and are always on hand to answer any questions you may have about your course, your future career, travel or money issues. The college chaplain provides support for all faith groups, and you can get free, confidential help and advice on personal or health issues from our visiting nurse or college counsellor, or from our online counselling service.
SGS Filton can give you a head start in your education and career, with a wide range of both vocational and academic courses, and a high standard of teaching, from tutors who really care about your development.

SGS Filton students can access resources at our WISE campus, where you will find some of the best sports facilities in the country, enabling all our students to take part in sport and exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Now in its tenth year, the Bristol Academy of Sport was developed so that our students can combine study and sport.
Students enrolled on any of our full-time courses can spend up to 16 hours a week participating in one of the following academies:
Basketball (male and female)
Football (male and female)
Learning resource centre
Our state-of-the-art learning resource centre combines traditional library services with outstanding IT facilities, such as internet access, online journals and databases to help you learn.
It provides a quiet working environment for independent study, as well as group study space. Books covering all course subjects are available, as well as fiction, autobiographies, newspapers, magazines, journals, and DVDs.

The Bristol Construction Academy
SGS Filton is home to the Bristol Construction Academy (BCA), which gives students the chance to gain industry-recognised qualifications in a variety of construction trades.
Skilled tradespeople are always in demand, and a career in construction is a future in one of the UK’s largest industries, (not sure that makes sense)with job opportunities in a diverse range of areas, from building and plumbing to gas engineering and electrical installation.
Perfect Image Hair and Beauty
Our state-of-the-art commercial salons give our hair and beauty students the opportunity to try out their skills on paying customers, all under the supervision of our expert staff.
Techniques you can learn range from nail extensions, tanning and hair styling to waxing, massage and facials, all using industry-recognised product ranges, including Matrix’s professional range for hair, Susan Molyneux’s pure aromatherapy range for facials, Skintruth for nails, and Sun Laboratories’ natural range for tanning.
All students at SGS Filton can benefit from cut-price treatments in the salons, with prices at around a quarter of what you’d expect to pay in a high street salon. We also sell a range of products to complement and maintain your new look, at very competitive prices.

Throughout the year we hold advice and enrolment events to help you make the right choices about your education and future career. Our friendly, experienced staff can advise on part-time and full-time courses, and higher education.
These informal events give you the chance to meet the tutors, get information on courses and careers, and experience our state-of-the-art facilities and dynamic, exciting atmosphere for yourself.
Our learner services team will also be on hand to help with any queries about

We haven’t been inspected by Ofsted since Filton College and Stroud College merged in February 2012 to become South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.

With excellent facilities, high quality teaching and a conducive environment for learning, SGS students expect to succeed – and they do, consistently
SGS Filton’s A level pass rates have improved for the past six years, and now exceed the pass rate benchmarks for sixth form colleges.
In 2012 A2 pass rates rose to 99%, with 40% achieving high grades, and we now have some of the best A level average grades per subject in the west of England. A high proportion (90%) of our students gained places at university.
Similarly, our BTEC National Diploma students consistently achieve excellent pass rates. This year 96% of students passed their BTEC National, with 75% achieving high grades.

How to find us
There are lots of ways you can travel to our Filton campus:
Travel by bus to SGS Filton is easy. You can view all bus services within the Bristol area using Bristol City Council’s bus timetables [link]. Alternatively, you can call 0871 200 2233.
Car and motorbike
SGS Filton students have access to free, security-patrolled car parks, with additional parking available for students with disability. As parking is limited, we strongly encourage car sharing.
For students studying at our Queens Road site, metered parking and a multi-storey car park are close by.
If you prefer to cycle to college, SGS Filton has a cycle parking area for students to use, with secure storage for bikes.
Both Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood railway stations are just a ten minute walk from SGS Filton, making train travel a convenient option.
